Why Must You Oil Your Hair Regularly?

Hair oiling has been a traditional method that originally stemmed from Southeast Asia. The practice of massaging oil to your scalp and hair is also considered a form of a natural Ayurvedic medicinal remedy, owing to the plethora of benefits it comes with, such as:

  • Protects hair from heat damage, wear and tear
  • Replenishes nutrients that strip away from excessive shampooing
  • Nourishes the scalp
  • Softens hair texture , as it reduces frizz
  • Reduces dandruff and dry scalp
  • Reduces hair fall if applied regularly
  • Hydrates hair and maintains  shine and gloss
  • Strengthens hair shaft
  • Some oils have nutrients to enhance hair growth
  • Potential to avoid premature greying

The practise works best while leaving the oil overnight, and washing it the following day. This allows the scalp and hair to absorb the nutrients efficiently and optimally. Oiling is one of the natural methods to maintain good and healthy hair, in all types of climates. Certain hair types may require different hair oils, but, the most commonly available and popular oils are:

  • Coconut
  • Almond
  • Argan
  • Sesame
  • Moringa
  • Amla

Method:

  1. Apply the oil to your scalp, either with your fingers or a cotton pad - you can warm it up slightly
  2. Massage your scalp thoroughly in a circular motion
  3. Either cover your hair with a shower cap or place a towel above your pillow and leave it overnight - to avoid stains
  4. On the next day, thoroughly shampoo your hair with two washes to ensure the oil is out
  5.  Deeply condition it, and apply a leave in conditioner once finished!
