8 Easy Tips to Achieve Healthy Skin

Following an intense, rigorous everyday skincare routine may be challenging and a task for some. Well, there are many natural, simple and easy methods to maintain or get healthy skin, that are less time consuming and readily available. 

1. Hydrate Frequently: drinking adequate water (ideally 8 glasses a day) flushes out unwanted toxins and chemicals from your body and it has the ability to increase the blood flow in the skin. Other ways for hydration include water-rich foods, such as watermelons, strawberries, tomatoes, cucumbers, which are 90% water.

2. Exercising: exercising regularly increases blood circulation and flow throughout the skin, which makes oxygen and nutrients reach faster to your cells. Moreover, a sweaty workout releases unwanted toxins, by detoxifying cells.  It is important to thoroughly wash and cleanse your face and body after the workout, as there is a chance the toxins can seep back in through the pore.

3. Adequate Sleep: a lack of sleep has an impact on the skin which may cause lines, wrinkles, uneven skin patches and less elasticity.. Having 8 hours of sleep daily is essential, as body repair and rejuvenation processes take place while you are in deep sleep. Thus, the more sleep you get allows more time for these processes to take place, keeping your skin healthy.

4. Increase Antioxidants Intake: antioxidants are naturally occurring minerals and vitamins that help combat radicals - harmful particles that cause skin damage, by donating an electron. It can be found through everyday foods such as berries, oranges, lemons,  leafy greens, green tea, eggs, etc.

5. Consume Healthy Fats: omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids are building blocks of cell membranes and retains the  skin's moisture, while absorbing essential minerals and vitamins. It also prohibits irritants to enter the skin that cause dryness. Sources include: walnuts, eggs, chia seeds, salmon, mackerel, flax seeds, sardines, sunflower seeds, almonds, cashews and  soybean oil. These can also be consumed in the form of prescribed tablets.

6. Reduce Direct Sun Exposure: UV rays can cause melanoma, which is one of the most common and harmful type of skin cancer. UV rays  have the potential to cause premature skin aging, wrinkles and deepline, demolish collagen and skin elasticity, leaving the skin to become thicker. It is important to apply SPF daily and wear appropriate clothing to protect the skin.

7. Limit Sugar Intake: consuming sugar in large amounts lead to acne, premature ageing, and causes inflammation, that leads to skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis and rosacea.

8. Reduce stress: stress impacts your skin instantly, by causing premature ageing, as skin tends to lose its elasticity and the breakdown of collagen occurs. When the human body undergoes stress, inflammatory chemicals are released that have the potential to aggravate existing skin conditions.
